Google android news: Today android application makes historic change by changing their app size to 4GB, earlier it’s was use to be of maximum size of 50MB.
According to android official blog article Android apps break the 50MB barrier “50MB size for apps works for most apps, and smaller is usually better, However some type of apps, like high-quality 3D interactive games, require more local resource and to fulfil their requirement we are expanding the android application memory to 4GB”
The APK size still limited to 50MB to secure on-device storage, but developer can attach the extra expansion file in their APK.
In this 4GB limit developer will get two expansion file each of 2GB and android market will host all file to reduce the cost of file serving.
Important: Now user will see the total size of App before installing / purchasing the app
When user use purchase any app from android market refund period started as downloading completed, but with expansion file service now, on new devices refund period won’t start until user downloaded its apk file with expansion file (automatically get downloaded with android sdk app). For older device user can download expansion file via downloader library which provided below with all apps.
How expansion file going to work while downloading (For Google android developers)
When the primary activity for the app is created, it checks for expansion file if file available to download then have to provide following android application source code:
if file is not available or exist for download then developer have to fire up downloader service.
Downloader will automatically perform an LVL check against server to deliver the name of the file, file size and URLs.
